Review for Checkatrade
Replies for Checkatrade
Was great at the beginning but since homeserve took over enquiries have gone down hill even with getting lots of reviews. They have over saturated my area so I'm competing with 100's of other companies so customers are getting loads of quotes and driving quotes down to where there is no profit to it. Need to focus on advertising Instead of advertising for new trades and overloading areas. Should be quality not quantity which they have forgotten.

Since been bought out by homeserve they have really gone downhill. To busy trying to get new tradesmen on board than getting work for the ones already members. Totally a waste of money

I get loads of quality leads from checkatrade, definitely worth the £1,000 per year fee. Plus they are really helpful via email, phone or Facebook. The positioning system is good as well.

I’ve been a member for a few months now. I found that it’s definitely worth the money, the application process is easy. I’ve found that 90% plus of the quotes turn into jobs, due to people already have confidence in you having seen your reviews.

I have been member since 2014 with mixed review value for money. Allays looked at it as advertisement expense rather than core source of business.
Last year got hit with massive incise in fees. I have questioned justification to 300% incrise as it is not normal business practise only to be told that has been massivley underpriced for years, so more of plie of horse manure from them if I may say so.
Since then I have been following financila and investors news with particular aim at Home Serve and Checkatrade.
As it turns out Home Serve has been downgraded May 2019 from low to reduce, with Checkatrade part of company showing healthy 33% rise in profits year on year.
They have poured massive amount of money into advertisement which had to be reclaimed via new membership or rise in fees.
According to article plan is to invest even more money into adverts which will probably result in more rise in fees.
I believe Checkatrade worked great as it was originally set up and help customers find reputable local small professionals like myself. It work for a decade so not sure why mess up something good for contractors and clients.
Unfortunately I believe that small firms like myself are unable to sustain this rapid rise in fees and will be force to make room for larger companies that can afford it making it a bit discriminatory towards small firms.

Didn't work out for me. I joined and was told less trades men in the area and a few weeks later it tripled. Plus to stay top of the list you need to be getting loads of reviews. But some customers say they will but never do.

As with most things it’s the most well known so that comes with extra costs. Still as it’s so well known and advertised it does go in your favour when customers see your in it.

I joined Checkatrade in 2012 and had a good 5 -6 years with them. Good level of enquiries and generally few time wasters. Cue Homeserve taking over and things went drastically downhill. Level of enquiries fell off a cliff and customer service went with it! Absolute joke of a company now, such a shame coz in its heyday it helped me build my business from nothing

Used to be with checkatrade four five years, but last year when homeserve fully took over in August they vertuly doubled my fees ,more and more of the same trades came in the same area when I was told it would be limited work dropped off, customer services went down and attitude was appalling.since I had left herd of more and more problems trades are still having.

This is another marmite sinario, my personal experience is they are ok a little pricy but ok I usually get enough work which warrants paying them the £90+ a month although I’ve been ill over the last 6 months and been struggling with my finances, checkatrade were very understanding and gave me two months free to help me get back on my feet

I have been a member twice over the last 4 years, The first time I joined 4 years ago the response from customers was amazing. I had more or less 6 -8 months work lined up. However the second (last year) time I joined was a complete nightmare, despite keeping my profile up to date weekly my phone never rang with an inquiry from CAT at all. Think twice before investing your hard earned cash is my advice, as there are other better and cheaper lead generation sites available.

I've been with CheckaTrade since 2010 and have to say it has been great up until Homeserve took over since then there has been too many issues with the website crashing and not showing up business correctly, they get put right but then it happens again, just check the checkatrade facebook group to see just how many un happy customers there are now. the price is another issue 100% increase on renewals.

I’ve been with CheckATrade for nearly a year now and I have to say I do like the idea of tradesmen register as you just pay full year membership and get work leads directly from customers not like others charging you money for customer details so you can quote and that doesn’t warranty anything.
However I don’t get much work from CheckATrade , but I think that’s because there is too much competition in my area.

Check a rip off more like. Almost doubled my annual membership as they were taken over by homeserve, with promises of extra spending on advertising which is interesting because I've had far less less customer work from Checkatrade thatn when I was paying half the amount. £1,500 a year to have a page on a website is far too much.
The staff don't even bother calling to see how things are going like they used to. Don't waste your money, and be warned they will double your annual fee after the first year when you have worked your socks off to get great feedback. I shall be leaving them when my membership expires.
They also allow an unlimited amount of the same trades to advertise with them locally, so you may be surrounded by other same trades working all around you (check a rip off don't care as long as they are taking your money),

Checkatrade offer an excellent product and it made a massive difference to our business at start up as it was an almost instant customer base. Only downside was the recent price increase for membership which my opinion was excessive.

Being part of Check A Trade had given my company the ability to take the next step due to the leads and profile. Check a trade also made me realise the importance of my company brand and the need for things like feedback. Check A Trade is changing and I’m not 100% it’s going to be for the better with homeserve but time will tell.

There is currently a lot of concern with checkatrade, my review is based on the last two years Ive dealt with them.
The staff are always very polite and helpful, everything I have asked for they have delivered on hence the 5 stars.
The brand up to date is excellent Im not sure about the new owners and cant help thinking they have a hidden agenda. Costs have been reasonable and I have received good quality leads, checkatrade helped me realise that getting customer feedback is key to gaining new business. Hopefully my charge wont double like others have said.
Hopefully checkatrade wont be ruined.

The price of checkatrade has just risen to £1500 a year which was explained by “more marketing and realisation of their leads true value” Checkatrade has also been taken over by home serve a much larger company so I only see it getting far far worse. We said goodbye but good whilst it lasted

I was previously a member of Checkatrade in the begining my ROI was great! 80% of the calls converted into jobs, there where limited number of any one trade which boosted my work load but as they grew so did the number of tradesman, the calls started to slow down and the number of calls converted to jobs severely dropped off. It soon became clear to me it would only get worse as they grew larger so i left. Over all i was pleased with the service they provided for the time i was with them.

This has worked well for me but you have to keep on top of the feedback and update your profile. I made the fee back within 2 weeks of going live but be wary of cold calls and spammers emailing constantly but I guess that goes hand in hand with online advertising. Deffo gives the customers a chance to view your work before calling and generally don't get many timewasters, plus its good to refer clients back to should they require references...but as with most things you'll only get out of it what you put into it.
January 31, 2018 @ 11:08
You must keep on top of updating the site and make sure that review go in otherwise you will slip down the order and phone dry’s up. They have put me at the top for my area for a 24hr period and my phone is non stop. Like how helpfully there services are but i do tend to find other companies phone me just to advertise with them.

Really didn’t work for me, all the reviews that I had on Checkatrade were my own customers that left reviews, none were from Checkatrade.
In my year membership I managed to generate leads for 2 gas safeties.
After sales just kept saying “it’s very unusual for you to be getting no calls, you’ve everything set up right on the site”...
6 months later still dry and still no real help from the aftersales team.

I've found check a trade to be the best firm of advertising that I have done. Some say it's expensive, but I don't agree. I was paying twice as much to yell, and didn't get anything like as much work Fon them. I do find it's better for bringing bathroom work in rather than the heating side.

I signed up for checkatrade last November. The sales rep was pleasant and really sold it to me. Although pricey I was made to believe the work enquiries were high but I found I've only received a handful of jobs so hasn't really paid for itself. I've worked on my profile and promoted it but still difficult to get noticed. I'm in two minds as to renew. They had my address wrong when requesting feedback cards and stickers and still not received and we are 8 months in.

Signed up a few months ago and the enquiries I get through it is good. Definitely a good return on investment Signing up was a breeze and it was all up and running within about 3/4 weeks as I was informed. You do need to keep getting review cards filled out and sending them in to ensure you are at the top of results. I have noticed a few review cards going missing and not being published but this could be down to the mail system so I am now taking pictures of each card before it is sent so that I have a copy in case it goes missing.

Joined these 4 years ago and for the majority of the time we were pretty happy. We are still members however the leads of dramatically reduced.
Biggest factor I feel is they have saturated the areas and despite saying they were going to limit members in areas it never materialised and they have taken on more and more members all pissing in the same pot.

I've been a member of checkatrade for nearly 3 years. It has kept me busy but to keep the work coming in you have to put effort into getting reviews and keeping your profile up to date. If you don't, you slip down the list and customers won't find you. The customer service has always been good if I've had issues. If a customer sends a negative review in, your advisor will help you to get it resolved rather than just putting it straight online. Better value for money than other review sites too which cost per job.

Will not give you any help or advice if your profile is under 18 positive review not taking in to consideration the neutral reviews, I found a total waste of time always took customers side to an argument not the trade that is being squeezed to get more out you for the money they originally agreed to pay.

Been on checkatrade for 7 months, quite frankly it has not worked very well for me,I havec had a few little jobs, but it has not jutified the fee at present, over £200 a month, some months we have had nothing at all, despite the fact that we were told they get thosands of enquiries every month.we are using our word of mouth jobs to pay for it.You get reasring phone callsfrom the checkatrade staff saying it will hopefully pick up, mean time you just keep paying.I just hope it does pick up, or i have wasted a lot of money.

I use them and get lots of work through them. I'd have a look on there website first and see how many engineer's are in your area. Initially I was the only person in my town on there but a few others are now using it.
Ackroyd Plumbing and Heating Ltd - answer on April 19, 2017 @ 07:20
YES! I don't know where the £200 a month comes from (as the other reviewer stated) I pay £650 a year and that's it. Provided you are pro active and get your customers to leave reviews then it works well.
If you don't get reviews then you drop down the list. You have to help yourself or it won't help you.
I find that even if it's not directly generating a job then people are using it to decide who to use. We gain ALOT of work from people checking our reviews out after hearing our name.

Worth it for new business until you can get established and rise up the google rankings etc

Used to get loads years ago now it's very poor, think this is our last year with them

Used to get a lot of work from full installs to leaking taps. Now they have saturated the market and customers seem to want something for nothing. Not as good as it was

Hey all - are you using Checkatrade for leads (new business) or reviews etc to convert leads you get yourself ('please check out my Checkatrade profile')?
Terry Burgin Plumbing and Heating Engineer - answer on April 4, 2017 @ 03:50
No, would rather push my expert trades site and Google reviews rather than pay a middle man site like check a trade.
They may be top of Google rankings but you then have to compete with everyone else on there.
PARAGAS - answer on April 5, 2017 @ 08:09
No. I'd never use them. Spend some time on your Expert Trades profile and website and the leads will start coming through.

Mainly to win new work for me personally but having an online presence through reviews is also a bonus
Electrical Innovations (Derby) Ltd - answer on April 10, 2017 @ 06:11
I don't use them. Seemed expensive, or am I being tight?
Lock'n'Secure Locksmiths - answer on April 16, 2017 @ 09:38
Have been on checkatrade for five years now and the benefits to my business far outweigh the cost. As with any marketing spend you need to calculate the RoI for you as it will vary depending on location, business type and saturation.

Yes, it is a valuable source of work for myself. There are a lot of time wasters that you have to sieve through but the genuine customers pay for the years membership in one job. For a young business it helps build a customer base which leads to repeat work
