Makita 18v SDS Plus LXT Rotary Hammer Drill

Had it 7 years and has never let me down. Quality bit of kit unlike some other brands. Really powerful and in my eyes you don't need to get the more expensive version

Bought this drill years ago and its still going strong. I have many other makita tools my favourite being the cordless biscuit joiner.
Makita have made their tools to last although sometimes performance is not as great as other brands.

Bought one of these SDS drills at the very start of my apprenticeship, I have now been qualified for over 2 years and this drill is still going strong! It’s had intense use over the years and not had a single problem! Honestly, if you want to invest in a beast of a drill that’s built to last then this is the go to SDS! Seen many other SDS drills break for co-workers, but this one outlasts them all!

One of my work colleagues has this drill. Whilst I have a full DeWalt kit, I was pleasantly surprised when using this drill. It felt very comfortable to use and I felt that it was also well balanced and not too heavy. To be fair a good addition to anyone’s kit.

A good well balanced power tool that packs a lot of punch. Always surprises me just how much you can throw at this and it just keeps on going

Had this drill a long time and if I'm honest I don't use it much only because being a bit bigger it doesn't fit in the tool cases I use so sits on the van most of the time. But now and again it's the most useful drill I own , if I have to drill a long hole for a pipe or wire it handles the job with ease,, totally recommend

Had this drill for a good few years and I’ve used this loads of times and it’s still going strong, really peer full for drilling holes and used it a couple of times to chip away concrete, was really solid concrete but was no problem going through, would recommend this sds

We regularly use this to help fix copper 8mm into concrete, really helps to make the job so much easier. Takes a good beating and stands the test of time and abuse on a daily basis.

Good ads for the money. This is the brushed version though. If you want something with a bit more power go for the brushless dhr242. This can have an extraction adapter filter to make the work much cleaner

A fantastic workhorse, it just keeps running. The battery is very loose and sloppy, but that's how it protects the battery from shock. It has a light, rotory stop and hammer stop.

Love this piece of kit! As a plumber/heating installer I’m always drilling 5” holes in masonry for the flue. I know in the specification of this drill it says a max of 18mm or something but I have to say I have over 200+ core holes with this bad boy and she’s still going strong. The generator and 110v has been left at home for years. Best bit is it’s only £150 sheets for a new one when it does finally pack up

This is a very useful tool to have in your tool box it's very light and manageable to use I wud highly recommend this fir your new hammerdrill

Great for any plumber endless power and Easley used with big bits to drill then put pipe through if fitting out a house or building with new pipes cables or even building stud walls as a carpenter quickly and easily

I brought one of these many years ago and have used it for chasing out aswell as drilling never let me down have recently brought the 36v as well and that is unbelievable the power tbese machines have

Hi Bought this a while ago and I use it pretty much every day. It's cheap to buy and it's got so much power behind it. I can't recommend it enough.

Solid sds. Had mine years and is still going strong. Even core drilled with it a few times and didn't miss a beat. If paired with decent drill bits it will do the job with ease

I have had this hammer drill for about 5 years now. I have had to change the brushes once but apart from that it’s been an amazing work tool for me. The hammer drill function seems less aggressive than a Dewalt one which it good when you don’t want to pop the brick on the other side of a wall when drilling through!

Having owned the cordless hammer drill within a Makita kit I bought 4 years ago I have to say how great it’s been dealing with all the various tasks I’ve used it for.
Well worth having.

I have used Makita power tools for a long time and when my last drill was stolen from my van, it was easy to make my choice of Makita again.
It’s not the cheapest on the market but is easy to use and very versatile.

A very good SDS drill has got great power for an 18V drill. If you are using the lower amp batteries then they will get drained fairly fast however this is expected with a tool like this

A solid bit of kit,
The trigger has gone a little unsteady after a particularly hard day and a fair few holes in hard concrete. But it’s good on battery use and hasn’t totally failed yet.
3+ years.

Good quality drill with benefit of rotary stop, and cheap when i bought it, only downside it doesnt stand up in its own like some of the other sds drills

Got this drill with the detachable vacuum unit. Drill works great and effortless on a wide range of materials, the hammer only works well on brick with small chisel or chase bit. The vacuum unit with upto 25mm drill bit is a massive bonus no dust and a easy to use depth gauge

Great drill I've had this for a few years now, it is used almost every day and I've had no bother with it at all, used to drain the batteries as it came with 3amp batteries but now with the 5amp it's brilliant.

Watched a sparks use one of these on one of my jobs, decided I have to have one, great for installing back boxes, stitch drilling and everything in between.

Brilliant drill just as powerful as my corded drill but much easier without having to run an extension lead. Goes through walls like butter. I would recommend getting a 5amp battery to last longer with the extra power it punches!

Great addition to my tool kit it gets a lot of abuse and is still going strong, only 1 complaint that the trigger cover is a little weak as my one has split still work fine though.

This was one of the first new Makita cordless tools I purchased since then I’ve gone on to add to the collection. This sds drill has yet to be beat, all three functions have come in handy at some point since it’s purchase. Drilling holes on hammer is its best setting, I have on the odd occasion had to use to core drill which it has managed with ease and it has come in very useful when using the chisel setting to hammer radiators when fitted with the vibe tool from Adey.

Great SDS, had it for years and still going strong even having used it on the occasional core.
Light and compact too, fitting in a standard makpac.

love this, not too heavy, ploughs through walls when you need it, great build quality, all my power tools are Makita because I trust the brand

Nice and compact but with plenty of power. Not overly bulky and heavy to carry around. Very durable and long lasting. Would definitely recommend this item

The only sds I’ve ever had until I recently upgraded to the 36v. Never had any issue or problems. Drilled through anything. Lightweight also.

Bought this to replace my dewalt one and must say very impressed a lot lighter in weight but just as capable of not quicker I like the fact it has belt clip handy for up ladders

I have been using Makita for the last 5 years since moving over dean Dewalt, I can not recommend Makita on there power tool selections, unrivalled in power and performance, opting for brushless allow amazing longevity and outlasting use on a 5.0ah battery.

Very impressed with this drill. It's had a rough time for 3 years and still going strong. Would recommend the Makita range to anyone as I've only had 1 issue which was swapped out straight away.

Best SDS going. Never let me down. It's not brushless but it's lasted me years and still going strong. My go to drill

Battery life is good too, charge times quick,

Has enough power for most jobs,small enough to keep in van just in case.I use mine for most jobs it’s out of the box and set up in minutes unlike my 110v which now only get used for core drilling and really big drill bits ,the cordless one can do every thing else.

Quality, easy to use and definitely value for money. Very robust and does what is suppose. Used everyday for last 10 months and still plenty of life.

Absolutely shit! It had no guts and the gear box failed. Sent it back and the second one the chuck failed. Don’t buy it save your money and get something red or green

Good quality SDS at a reasonable price. Has got normal setting rotary hammer and hammer which are all good. Plenty of power and lasts for ever with a 5Ah battery.

couple of the lads i work with have this drill what a great bit of kit definitely on my christmas wish list saves all the leads when fixing anywhere

Switch from dewalt to this. A lot more power a bit bulkier and heavier but eases through not like dewalt

Not to badly priced for a cordless SDS drill. Its ok for drilling small holes in masonry and hacking plaster off the walls but does struggle with anything more than a 16mm drill in it. I would personally pay the extra and get the bigger SDS and brushless.

Have owned this for some time, it gets the job done but I would say spend the extra and get the brushless version, i now have both and this is just a backup. It loves to eat through batteries.

Another God send by Makita. Small, tight, compact, light, powerful. I use mine for rainwater goods, very handy for up a three part fixed ladder. Could do with a belt faster though, hence the 4 star features. Anyhow, love it

This drill is quite simply amazing!
I have owned it for at least 5 years now and believe me I have given it a real hammering, I quite often use this drill for Cutting chases in the toughest of walls when there is no power on site and it works a treat!
Sometimes I will use it just to save me going to the van for the mains drill!
Best thing about it is that it still works as it did when it was new! Nothing phases it!
Great bit of kit that doesn’t cost the earth!

18v sds couldn’t be without it , use thus daily for light masonry drilling raw plugs etc
Can eat through batteries when using in breaker mode
But still great but if kit

This is great, makes drilling for clips or anything in an awkward place a lot easier than dragging a cable around

Brilliant drill. I use this for all my drilling even up to 32mm sds drill bit. It can rape the battery drilling this big but it's just as good as most 240v sds drills.

Great piece of equipment bit pricey but you pay for the quality. Mine gets used loads for e everything never lets me down

This is an amazing drill by makita (you can trust makita with its quality products). The drill has a light on it which is activated when the trigger is pulled. The battery holder has a little wiggle/movement on it, this is to stop vibrations affected the battery when in use. Drill is comfy to use and being cordless save so much time. You won't be disappoint buying this product. The drill comes with a handle, depth stop but no carry case. Amazing price for this bit of kit.

The drill is brilliant lightweight and really easy to use as for value for money I bought it in a set so not to sure indivualy

Decent drill, pretty robust and plenty of power. Would recommend spending the extra money and getting the brushless version for even more power

We have 2 of theses drills which are used every day on site , can't fault them . Enough grunt to get thorough concrete but comfortable and light enough to use with 1 hand . Reasonably priced compared to other drills on the market

Can't really fault this drill been using it daily now for a couple of years. Decent value for money. Ergonomic and comfortable to use.

Great product can use 1 handed unlike some 24v and 36v drill, I use it with 18v 4.0amp batteries with fast charger.

Great quality SDS drill. Eats through concrete & masonry. I use Dewalt Extreme SDS bits and a 4ah battery with mine. Great price for a quality piece of kit.

I have the older version which can only take 3ah batteries but this is the only downside. I had it dropped 12feet off a roof and still works. Even tried it with a core drill for 32mm waste pipe and it had enough oomph to go through a double skin brick wall (used 3 batteries doing it though). Great for most jobs. Anything it can't do i use is corded brother for

Totally agree with a previous review, drains the life out of batteries on the more intense job like harder drilling, for those general jobs, drilling, chiselling out etc... perfect.
Especially ideal on site where trips are becoming the main hazard due to cables lying everywhere because mainly corded machines are the only ones having the nuts for the job... this gives you a fighting chance without the headaches and hazards

Brilliant drill on a 5 amp batterie.

Good tool, battery can run down quite quick if drilling through wall of solid materials concrete block, brick etc, so a few spare fully charged battery's are recommended to have on the bigger jobs!
